Laconia turned Omro over countless times in the first half on Tuesday night.
The Spartans' first 8 points came off of turnovers, sparking them to a 77-47 win to open conference play at home.
In addition to the points off turnovers, Laconia's first 13 points were also scored in transition as they played quickly and found open teammates up the floor.
"We love to push in transition," point guard Aubrey Leonard said. "We have a lot of really fast girls, and we have a lot of really good passers, so we really like to utilize that."
Leonard found teammate Tierney Madigan on three fastbreak baskets in the first half. The quick start spurred Madigan to a game-high 21 points.
Madigan said it is important for the team to get into transition when the shots aren't falling.
"It's really important, especially if we can't score in the beginning of the games," Madigan said. "None of our shots were really falling, even some of our fastbreak [layups] weren't falling."
Still the Spartans (3-1 overall, 1-0 in Flyway) were able to build a 39-18 halftime lead. Madigan had 14 at the half.
Omro (1-2, 0-1) went on several runs in the second half, including making four 3-pointers. Ari King made two of those and finished with 9 points.
Each time the Foxes pulled close to 20, Laconia made shots to extend the lead back out. Leonard got into rhythm, making four 3s. Leonard finished with 18.
"I think we shot them in rhythm maybe a little bit more than we did in the first half," coach Chris Morgan said. "But, again, offensively we were sloppy, so we've got to clean some stuff up."
Finley Morgan also got going in the second half. She scored 10 after halftime and finished with 17.
Morgan said he believes his team needs to improve defensively, particularly in man-to-man defense.
"Our man-to-man was not good," Morgan said. "We're losing people, we got face cut, I didn't think our effort was very good on defense."
Madigan said it is up to the leaders of the team to make sure that they improve that aspect of the game quickly.
"Our man-to-man defense is the biggest thing we have to work on right now," Madigan said. "We're just not playing our best with help-side and I feel like that's usually where we play our strongest.
"I feel like if we play strong defense, that's going to help the whole game."
