Ledgers, Lions ranked in first coaches poll

St. Mary's Springs and Lomira each had impressive week one nonconference wins at home this past Friday night.

The Ledgers got a comfortable 35-12 win against Lake Country Lutheran while the Lions secured a dominant 49-15 win against Horicon/Hustisford.

The state's coaches decided each of those performances were impressive enough to warrant rankings in Division 5, where the Ledgers are No. 4 and the Lions are No. 9.

In their week one performances, both teams were able to be multidimensional on offense, while also playing stifling defense.

Additionally, Ben Anderson and Jackson Goebel were each impressive quarterbacking their respective teams.

Anderson finished with 143 yards passing, 72 yards rushing and three total touchdowns. He led Springs to 334 yards of total offense.

Not to be outdone, Goebel's stat line was an impressive 134 yards passing, 94 yards rushing and four total TDs. The Lions also got 150 yards and two TDs from Taylor Schaumberg. Lomira had an eye-popping 426 yards offensively.
