Lions sweep Kewaskum triangular

Game 1: Lomira 30, Kewaskum 3 (5 innings)

The Lomira bats were on fire all day Saturday in Kewaskum.

The Lions scored 23 runs in the second and third innings and didn't slow down to earn the 30-3 win in five innings.

Coach Tom Cole said he thinks just being able to get outside and face live pitches is going to allow his team to have more success offensively.

"We're going to start to see the ball a little better," Cole said. "Something must have been in the air today, every ball we hit was finding holes and we had a lot of good at-bats today. I'm really proud of our guys."

Lomira brought 12 batters to the plate in the second and 19 in the third.

Senior shortstop Josh Steger led the Lions offensively in both games. He was 4-for-5 with three doubles, a triple, five runs and seven RBIs.

Steger said he feels like he has some momentum at the plate.

"I'm seeing the ball well right now," Steger said. "I gotta keep that up. I'd like to keep contributing for my team."

Right fielder Connor Steers went 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, four runs and two RBIs.

Junior Dalton Zingsheim started and got the win.

Game 2: Lomira 17, Port Washington 7 (6 innings)

Ty Wolff stepped to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and belted a ball out to the left-field fence.

Steger scored on the hit, which walked off the game for the Lions with a 10-run lead.

Port Washington kept the Lions close early, but Lomira battled around in the fourth inning and turned a tie game into a 9-3 lead. Steger hit a bases-clearing triple during that inning and then a 3-run homer in the fifth.

Steger went 3-for-5 with the home run, two triples, four runs and seven RBIs. Catcher Easton Zangl also scored four runs. He went 4-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Senior center-fielder Brady Mann led the game off with a home run.

Steger said he thinks when his team can start stringing hits together, it makes the Lions a tough team to deal with.

"All the guys before me are going out there and being dogs," Steger said. "They're getting hits and it makes me so confident to be able to get a hit for myself."

Jonah Mason came on in relief to pitch two innings. He gave up two runs in the fifth, but got out of a bases-loaded jam to keep Lomira's lead at 9-5.

Cole said he thought that his staff pitched well.

"We threw strikes for the most part and when they did have some problems, we worked ourselves out of it and nobody gave up," Cole said. "Six different guys got to pitch; it was a good opportunity for those guys."

Cole also said the day was important to continue building momentum for the upcoming Flyway schedule.

"We got four more games coming up so I think it's just great to start hitting the ball like we can and we'll see what happens next week," Cole said. "It should be fun."
