Coach Bryan Gregory wanted a complete, four-quarter performance from his Lomira football team.
He got it on Friday night.
From scoring on their first offensive play to a long touchdown run in the fourth quarter by backup quarterback Keegan Kell, the Lions dominated Omro in their 56-0 home Flyway win.
"We've put together some impressive quarters over the last couple of weeks here, but we were kind of looking for that four-quarter game to make sure we're putting our best foot forward," Gregory said. "Tonight, we came through and the kids really stepped up in a big way."
After three offensive plays, Lomira led 14-0 behind two Taylor Schaumberg touchdown runs. The first was a 25-yarder and the second was 19.
"This week I think there was a big emphasis on putting four quarters together and starting the game strong," Schaumberg said. "All the credit goes to the [offensive] line, I wasn't even getting touched the first 10 yards.
"It was fun to be out there running and just providing a spark to have everyone feed off of."
The defense forced a three-and-out to start the game and Jack Luedtke had a good punt return to set the Lions up on the Omro 25 for the first scoring drive. Brody Luedtke intercepted Omro QB Brock Frye on the second play of the next possession.
Schaumberg scored his third TD in the second quarter on a 32-yard run. He ran for 143 yards on just seven carries.
Schaumberg said the defensive intensity helped the offense with its quick start because of the field position it gave them.
"Defense has always kind of been a foundation that we can build off of," Schaumberg said. "It kind of energizes our offense. We have so many hard hitters on the defense."
Lomira (4-1 overall, 3-0 in Flyway) scored on its third possession with a four-play, 90-yard drive capped off by a Jackson Goebel 65-yard run. Goebel finished with 86 yards rushing to go along with the TD.
The Lions' early success on the ground foreshadowed the long night ahead for Omro (1-4, 1-2). Lomira rushed for 396 yards and eight touchdowns as a team, which Goebel said starts in the trenches.
"All credit goes to the offensive line," Goebel said. "They're the ones that drive our team. Obviously, Taylor, I think he's the best back in the Flyway. When I get my chance, I'm going to run hard.
"We're a dangerous offense and I think we've proved that the past two weeks."
Goebel only threw three passes and completed two of them with Lomira leaning on the efficient rushing attack that averaged 11.9 yards per carry.
Gregory said he trusts Goebel to quarterback the offense with whatever the team needs him to do.
"I have all the faith in the world in Jackson," Gregory said. "He's calm, cool, collected back there. He's a field general, he makes good decisions, he makes good reads, he's got good comradery with the group and he's really got them bought into what we're trying to do."
Jack Luedtke has emerged as a third weapon in the running game. He rushed for three TDs after scoring twice last week.
"He's not talked about enough," Goebel said. "He gets in the game, and he just runs people over."
