Lomira baseball has been ranked in the top-six of the WBCA rankings each week of the season, including spending four weeks ranked inside the top-three.
However, the Lions' playoff regional is loaded with three of the top teams in the state and Lomira (16-4) got the short end of the stick in the seeding process.
The Lions were given the No. 3 seed in the bottom half of Sectional No. 4 in the Division 3 playoffs.
Lake Country Lutheran (20-2) is the No. 1 seed and has lost just one game to teams from Wisconsin. That loss is to the No. 2-seeded Kenosha St. Joseph. The Lancers (16-4) beat LCL in a triangular back on April 27.
Lomira's lone common opponent with LCL was Waupun. The Lightning beat Waupun 3-1; Lomira lost 7-0.
The Lions will play the winner of No. 6 Clinton and No. 11 Hustisford/Dodgeland on May 26 at home. If they win that, it will likely set up a trip to Kenosha to take on the Lancers the next day.
Mayville (10-12) is in the same region as their Flyway rivals, the Cardinals earned the No. 8 seed. They will host No. 9 Shoreland Lutheran out of the Metro Classic conference next Thursday.
If the Cardinals beat Shoreland, they will move on to play LCL on May 26.
North Fond du Lac (3-11) got a No. 11 seed in Division 2, Sectional No. 2. The Orioles have an opening-round trip to No. 6 Xavier next Thursday. If NFDL can earn the upset, they would match up with No. 3 Luxemburg-Casco.
