Softball Regional Championship scoreboard

Laconia won the game that counted most.

After failing to beat Lomira across two regular-season games, the Spartans beat the Lions 3-2 on Thursday evening to clinch a WIAA Regional Championship.

Lily Schultz drove in what ended up being the winning run in the top of the fifth inning when she grounded into a fielder's choice, which scored pinch-runner Allison Wiercinski.

Wiercinski scored twice as a courtesy runner for pitcher Addison Maurer.

The Spartans (18-8) scored twice in the first inning. Maurer hit an RBI single and senior Callista Vande Berg followed it up with an RBI double.

Maurer kept the Lomira (20-7) bats quiet, allowing six hits and giving up just a single earned run in the complete-game win.

The Lions' pitching duo of Haleigh Caspary and Nora Buske gave up just five hits but combined to walk 10 batters. Buske picked up the loss.
