Springs, Campbellsport in Saturday softball action

Updated: Apr 29

St. Mary's Springs softball played in tight games all week.

All four games for the Ledgers this week were decided by one run, including both games in Saturday’s triangular at St. Mary Catholic High School.

Springs lost an 11-inning game to St. Mary Catholic 6-5 in the morning, but responded with a 5-4 win in the afternoon against Monroe. The win snapped a four-game losing streak.

Junior Gracie Konkol threw 193 pitches in the loss to St. Mary Catholic, but she did not give up any earned runs, for the Ledgers made seven errors in the game. Konkol also struck out 10 batters.

The Zephyrs’ (6-7) shortstop Emily Vogel hit a pop up with two outs in the 11th inning that the Ledgers couldn’t corral. Ainslie Liddy scored for the walk-off win.

Allie Waechter’s only hit of game one was a 2-run home run in the second inning, which gave Springs a 3-0 lead.

Springs (5-8) scored two more in the fifth when Nevaeh Galligan hit and RBI double and Maliyah Gallian followed, driving in Nevaeh with a single.

The Ledgers cleaned up the defense in game two against Monroe (11-4), for they did not make an error in the win. Mayliah Galligan pitched and got the complete-game win, giving up four earned runs on six hits.

Galligan and her catcher Aubrey Hafermann led Springs offensively. Galligan hit a two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third, which tied the game.

Hafermann got on base three times and scored each time. She hit what was eventually the game-winning home run to center field in the bottom of the sixth.
