Springs softball locks down WLA

It was closer than the first time around, but Gracie Konkol had similar success against rival Winnebago Lutheran Academy.

Konkol surrendered just five hits in the 3-0 conference win for St. Mary’s Springs on Wednesday afternoon from Smith Field.

The Ledgers (9-9 overall, 7-5 in Flyway) did not have an error in the game for one of the first times this season. Senior center fielder Addy King said playing clean takes their game to the next level.

“We really focused in on having less errors tonight and we actually finished with none so we were excited about that,” King said.

King drove in one of the three runs for the Ledgers on an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. She hit a ball to right field, which scored Nevaeh Galligan.

King said the approach at the plate doesn’t change when runners are in scoring position.

“We just all needed to dial in and that’s what we focused on tonight,” King said.

Konkol also shut WLA (6-10, 3-9) out in the teams’ first meeting back in April, which was a 16-0 run-rule win.

Although the Ledgers won that game handily, King said they still had to respect WLA as an opponent.

“We were really excited [for the game],” King said. “We beat them by a lot last time, but we knew we needed to keep our focus today.”

Maddie Anhalt picked up the loss despite giving up only five hits. Addy Suprenand and Kylah Simon each had two hits in the loss.
