T&F: Laconia girls dominate at Markesan, Campbellsport boys win at KML

Molly Duel once again headlined a dominant performance for Laconia girls' track and field on Thursday evening in Markesan.

The Spartans finished top-three in all but one event. That was a fifth-place finish in the long jump.

Duel won the 1600-meter run by more than 16 seconds. She was the only competitor to run a sub six-minute mile.

Her classmates Aubrey Leonard and Tierney Madigan were also terrific. Leonard won the 100-meter dash, running in 13.17 seconds and took second in the triple jump. Madigan won the 400-meter dash in 1:04.07 and finished second in the 200-meter dash.

Marissa Johnson won the 800-meter run.

Laconia had its usual success in the relays, earning wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 races. They also had a second-place finish in the 4x100 and a third in the 4x200.

In the field, Kinsley Laudolff took second and third in the shot put and discus, respectively.

The Spartan boys' team didn't win an event, but the majority of the success came in the field. Owen Leonard took second in the shot put. Teammate Adam Edmunds finished third in both shot and discus.

Carter Bonlender ran a 5:05.81 in the 1600-meter run, which was good for third place.

The Campbellsport boys' team had similar success in Jackson at Kettle Moraine Lutheran yesterday. It won the team race, blowing out the field. The Cougars scored 191 points, the next closest was KML with 109.

Caleb Smith and Evan Wilcox were excellent in the hurdles again. Smith won the 110-meter hurdles and Wilcox won the 300. Smith and Wilcox each finished third in the opposite race. Smith also won the triple jump and took second in the high jump.

The Cougars could not have performed any better in the relays, winning all four.

Garrett Pickering showed well in the distance events. He won the 1600, running in under five minutes. He also finished second in the 3200, finishing in 10:58.61.

Closing out the winners for the Cougars, Emmett Gonnering won the shot put and Logan Nolan won the 800.

The girls' team not quite the same success, but Lydia Toshner got her junior season off to a strong start in the hurdles. She won the 300 and took second in the 100.

Lexi Diels was the only other individual winner. She launched the discus 112 feet, 9 inches.

The 4x100 team was the only relay team to win. They ran in 53.73 seconds.
