The first Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association poll of the regular season was released Monday afternoon.
Lomira, Laconia and Omro were all tabbed as top-20 teams, according to the coaches of Wisconsin. Lomira, which is 7-0, held steady with its preseason No. 3 ranking behind LaCrosse Aquinas and Lake Country Lutheran in Division 3.
The Lions have scored 95 runs in their first seven games with a .435 team batting average, including four home runs.
Laconia is at the top of the Flyway at 6-0 and ranked No. 7 in D3. The Spartans were not ranked in the preseason poll, but have started hot, winning all eight games this season. In conference play, Laconia has given up a league-fewest 12 runs.
Omro was also not ranked in the preseason. The Foxes are third in the conference at 3-2 and are 6-2 overall. Where Lomira and Laconia have dominated nearly every game they've played, the Foxes have shown the ability to win tight games; they are 4-2 in games decided by fewer than three runs.
The rankings set the stage for an exciting week in the conference. Omro plays Laconia and Lomira has fourth-place Campbellsport in two-game series this week.
