WLA soccer handles New Holstein

Abby Cole is playing soccer for the first time since sixth grade.

Cole, a senior defender, scored twice for Winnebago Lutheran Academy in its 7-0 nonconference win against New Holstein on the road on Tuesday.

Cole got free on two corner kicks and headed each into the back of the net, first in the 11th minute on a cross from senior Rosalie Hilbert and again in the 51st minute on a cross from sophomore Ava Boelk.

The win was the Vikings' first on the season.

WLA pressured New Holstein (2-2) into mistakes, which helped the Vikings score five second-half goals. Hilbert added a goal to her assist in the 46th minute when she blasted a shot from about 20 yards out into the right side of the goal. Captain Leah Theisen had the assist on the play.

WLA (1-4) scored twice in the first half. Lacey Keifenheim, who missed the past three games injured, scored the second goal in the 25th minutes on a rebound from an Alix Jahnke shot that deflected off the post.
